ABOUT US

Pledge of Love (PoL) also known as Indahiro y’Urukundo is a non-profit organization founded by a group of Rwandan and Burundian millennials living in different parts of the world, with a shared goal of uplifting the most vulnerable in their home countries. The amazing thing about this group is their unique and diverse backgrounds and shared experiences growing up in the two neighboring countries. The tragedies that Burundi and Rwanda have faced, the genocide against Tutsis and many civil wars, have bound these young people. Seeing their countries in their worst condition inspired them to contribute to the success of the next generation through a non-profit organization aimed at empowering young people to think more critically and strategically to ensure a financially stable and fulfilling lifestyle using their talents.

The founding members are based in Rwanda, Burundi, Belgium, France, Norway, and in the United States of America. These young people met through a private online Facebook group that had a purpose of connecting East Africans all over the world in a discussion platform where they shared challenges of living in diasporas and bonded with those living back home. Through the online interactions, the group organized and co-sponsored two (2) charity events, in Kigali and in Bujumbura where they provided gifts and a holiday Christmas event for street children. After the second event, a few members agreed to work together to identify and brainstorm ways to bring more lasting change for marginalized youth. In 2018, they decided to form Pledge of Love and invited additional members within their social networks to join with the sole aim of finding ways and opportunities to help the youth in the two African countries using their personal resources and later expand their projects to the sub-region.
